Sarah tried to keep our holiday festivities as authenitc as possible. Thanksgiving dinner was the most difficult to pull off: she bought a 12 lb turkey during a visit to Tokyo and brought it all the way home in the car (a five hour ride), and Luke's parents brought a few other key ingredients when they visited in early November. On Thanksgiving Sarah created a fabulous feast with the help of Jen Forrey and Sarah Stratton (friends from the U.S. and Canada, respectively).
The Forreys and Strattons also joined us for Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve eating (of course!), caroling, and acting out our own nativity play. On Christmas Day we began the festivites the usual way---emptying stockings, opening presents, and eating more delicous food---but in the end, unable to resist the unseasonably warm weather, we headed to a local park for a game of soccer. To clean ourselves up and relax after all the exercise, we spent the afternoon at an onsen (traditional Japanese public bath). What a great end to a fun-filled day!
